Fed’s Collins: I see noticeably slower goods inflation, but services inflation remains persistently high. I am still reasonably optimistic that there is a path to reducing inflation without a significant economic downturn.
The US government has hit its $31.4 trillion debt limit.
US Treasury Secretary Yellen tells Congress: The debt issuance suspension period will begin on Thursday, January 19th, 2023, and last through Monday, June 5th, 2023.
Moody's: We anticipate the US government will agree on a new debt limit before the Treasury's extraordinary measures are exhausted.
