Highlighted Trades - 01/24/2024

We had an interesting day with our bot today, in that profits were dominated by short positions. The top 22 positions we took on today were all shorts! Consequently, we didn’t actually enter any profitable long positions.

Our most profitable trade of the day was, well, a short on $AWK. We went short at 10:20 AM, for $124.08 per share. We exited this when technicals turned sour at 2:30 PM - at a share price of $122.14. This netted a return of 1.56%. As for feedback on this trade: I think the stop and exit definitely could have been tighter. The ticker never approached the stop loss, but it wasn’t going past the level at roughly $121.50. On one hand, we missed out on some potential profits there. But at the same time, technical analysis guided us fairly well here.

This one’s our most profitable trade that’s yet to be closed. We went short on NEM at 1:05 PM, for $34.97 per share. It’s down to $34.44 now - so we’re up 1.5% on this. The target price is $33.50 - so it’s looking like we’ll hold this until the technicals invert.

Here’s another I want to call out, since this one is also still open. We got into a short at $37.06, and while it initially didn’t look good, it’s since become fairly profitable. We’re at a return of 0.93% so far. With the exit at $35.95, we’re still a ways away. This one also looks like we’ll be waiting for a technical signal to exit, rather than hitting our target price.

Our least profitable trade today was - surprise, surprise - a long position. We went long on DVA 10 minutes after open, at $106.23, before exiting due to negative technicals. The technicals prevented a greater loss - since the ticker did eventually hit our stop loss. All in all, we only lost 1.87% here.

Overall, we took on 52 new positions today. Of these, 34 were shorts and 18 longs. It’s unfortunate that none of our longs panned out, but our shorts ultimately did so well that the system is mostly in the black today.
