HaiKhuu Daily Report 2/01/2023
Good morning and happy Wednesday! This has been an extremely quick week for the markets, and I hope you are excited to realize some gains while actively trading the major economic news today! Please be aware that at 2 pm EST, we are expecting some major news that will heavily impact the markets. I will go into depth about my personal game plan later in this report, but please be extremely careful when attempting to trade today. Lots of people will make a significant amount of money, but more money will take a relatively large loss as momentum shifts throughout the day.
Thoughts & Comments from 1/31/2023
Yesterday was a beautiful bullish day for the markets. During the pre-market session, we saw a significant amount of general bearish momentum as $SPY made an official low of day trading below $400, at $398.25 but moved up accordingly going into open. We had economic news which caused us to break back above $400, and we watched as $SPY slowly grind up for the entire day. $SPY opened the day trading at $401.08 and continued to push up slowly.
The momentum of the day was terrible, but at least there was a slow bullish grind up until power hour. During power hour, we did see a slight sell-off for the first half hour, but once we tested the relative lows around $404, we watched as $SPY went on an absolute tear into close. $SPY closed the day making an official high of the day, trading at $406.53 and officially closing at $406.48, up $5.89 or roughly 1.47%, with an intraday movement of +1.33%
It was a tough day to trade in the markets but was a great day for anyone selling premium or holding general long positions. Great job trading yesterday, and I hope you all realized a significant amount of gains in the process.
Thoughts & Comments for Today 2/01/2023
Today, please be extremely careful as a result of economic news coming out throughout the day and with Jerome Powell speaking here at 2:30 pm EST.
We have seen this time and time again where the markets get impacted heavily as a result of general momentum. Please do not FOMO into any plays, do not let your emotions get to you. Be rational with any entries and exits you take for the day, and then watch out for opportunities to both invest and trade.
Personally speaking, from past experiences on FOMC days; what I typically see is general bullish momentum going into the open, showing general confidence in the market, that is followed up with a general sell-off into the lunchtime lul, buying starting at about 11-1 pm EST, and move up into 2 pm EST. Once economic news comes out, there will be a significant movement in either direction, followed by a quick snap back bringing it back to a relatively neutral spot, prior to JP starting to speak. Once JP starts to speak, we will see some general bullish momentum assuming the markets react positively to his statements, a continued push through the Q&A session until JP finally steps off the stage, where we see the markets calm down and react as expected.
I would advise relative caution attempting to trade this general movement today, assuming you are not a quick trader, nor are able to capitalize on the movements. I would stick away from attempting to scalp options and stick primarily towards trading shares of market indexes for relative safety ($SPY / $QQQ).
My personal game plan would be to buy the dip at open, ride the bullish momentum up, but sell prior to the lunchtime lul, wait until the selling is over and buy the relative dip again during that lul, and sell accordingly prior to 2 pm EST. You take off all general risks for the day at that time and limit your exposure for safety while attempting to capitalize on the general momentum. I would NOT play the first movement of the day but wait for quick scalping opportunities on the markets. After the initial reaction is over and things have calmed down, I would look to purchase shares of $SPY again in anticipation of JP speaking and continually increase my stop to secure more profit in the process of everything. I would not attempt to trade after JP is done speaking unless the markets are heavily overbought, where I would short accordingly and have a tight stop loss set in attempts to catch that play.
If you are not good at timing nor are relatively quick with your allocations. Look to purchase the dip on the lunchtime lul and ride the wave up, that should be a relatively easier play.
Again, do not purchase option contracts for relative safety, and please make sure to practice safe risk management.
I will call out all of these positions in real-time for everyone in the HaiKhuu Discord, so please be on the lookout.
